Christchurch Casino Masters raises over $100,000 for Cystic Fibrosis in Canterbury
The Cystic Fibrosis Charitable Trust Canterbury is better off to the tune of $105,000 due to the success of the Christchurch Casino Masters golf tournament held at the Christchurch Golf Links over Easter.
The tournament, which runs in conjunction with the PGA Tour's Augusta National Masters, was a huge success with a number of fundraisers held during the tournament, which included putting and chipping competitions, lucky draws and an auction at the Champion's Dinner held at the Christchurch Casino on Easter Monday.
The Champion's Dinner saw Niven Boyle presented with the customary green jacket as the overall champion with a net score of 139 (71,68) over the 36-hole event. Niven, representing the Chambers PR team who were also a major sponsor, helped them take out the team prize along with Mike Godinet, Layne Harwood and Noel Chambers.
The Christchurch Casino Masters, now in its sixth year, continues to grow every tournament - with this year no exception.
The tournament is the brainchild of Jerry Grocott and Warren Jones who head up Fore J Productions, which runs the tournament.
Jerry and Warren are keen to point out that the tournament would never get off the ground if it weren't for the rest of the management team and the herds of volunteers who donated their time for this great cause.
"Special mention also needs to be made of major founding sponsors Harvey Norman and the Christchurch Casino whose generosity make this such a sought after tournament to play on the golfing calendar," says Jerry.
"This year the tournament was moved to the Christchurch Golf links at Shirley, after an approach by the club. The club donated their course for the tournament for free, which is magnificent and for that we are very thankful."
"In all, the tournament was a success for the golfing fraternity of Christchurch and more importantly a great result for Cystic Fibrosis in Canterbury. The event again exceeded expectations and fundraising targets for Cystic Fibrosis in Canterbury."
